Diving and Snorkeling

The Solitary Islands offer world renowned diving and snorkeling. Wooli is the closest point to North Solitary Island, which has arguably the best dive sites in NSW.
Due to the size and orientation of the island, good sheltered dive sites can be found on the leeward side of the island on most days.
The Solitary Islands are located such that they receive a mix of Northern tropical waters and cool Southern waters. Due to this unique mix, there is an abundance of marine flora and fauna, and tropical species that coexist with non tropical species.

It is not unusual to see this whole spectrum of life on a single dive:

- Hard corals
- Soft corals
- nunibranchs
- tropical fish
- invertebrates
- pelagics
- turtles
- eels
- rays
- sharks

Divers are spoilt for choice. There are dive sites to suit every diver, from beginner, shallow and protected dive sites through to the more advanced deep dives, caves and swim throughs. Also wall dives, drift dives and numerous exploration sites.
- Anemone Bay has the largest carpet of anemones anywhere in the Southern hemisphere
- Fish Soup is another favourite with high volumes and numerous types of fish, pelagics and Grey Nurse sharks.

| Due to its location, 7 nautical miles directly off Wooli, and its exposure to the clear currents, North Solitary Island experiences a very high standard of water clarity, with visibility averaging 15m and sometimes exceeding 40m. |

Pimpernel Rock is another stand out dive site for advances divers only that is accessible from Wooli. Pimpernel is renowned for its large congregations of Grey Nurse sharks, huge schools of pelagics and its awesome pyramid rock formation from 8m down to 45m with large cavern through the centre. This site is an absolute must for the advanced diver!
